Sayonara
PRD, (founder, co-owner, moderator and amongst other things, the driving force on this blog) has been consistently telling me to post something on the blog.
Lazy bum that I am, I've refused. But since in a few days, PRD will no longer be my classmate, I decided to honour his long forgotten pleas by, you guessed it, doing something useful on the blog.
Here's something I wrote for my blog originally. But I think it fits here better. Here's an unofficial goodbye to the college; perhaps our last post as college students.
"If they ever tell my story, let them say...I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die.”
- Odysseus, Troy (2004)
Saying goodbye is only easy when you are glad to get away. Otherwise it is a painful task. Getting away from college is never easy. Not because it involves multiple sentimental scenes with friends and teachers, but because for most of us, it will be the last time we say “I am in this CLASS”. From the moment your days at college are over, you are, finally, really all alone. No more sleepovers in the last bench with friends, no more copying assignments from others. In fact, you are alone. Up until then, you could always have this last minute glorious hope of getting it done by somebody else, or having him/her for company in case you did not do it.
College life is a journey, a learning curve in life where you have some of the most memorable moments in life. And when it’s over, all you will have are memories. And hopefully a degree too.
Is this a goodbye letter? Yes and No. Yes because we doubt we’ll be around as a class for more than a few days from when you read this, No because we will carry around in our hearts for a long time all what we saw and experienced here.
Memories are those of the College Union Elections, Arts Day (the mimes, the dances, the songs and of course the make up), College Day (when we end up with some Chief Guest even more bored than us), Onam and Christmas celebrations (enjoyed with alcohol during the celebrations and suspensions afterwards), the innumerable times when the sessional marks ended up at the hands of parents even after you bribed the postman, the exams and the supplies, the endless number of times you copied assignments in the last bench during class hours and of course, all those times you simply had fun sitting around and doing nothing.
Goodbyes are due to our teachers, for we will never again be around raise our hands when the roll count is taken in class, nor to beg and cajole for more sessional marks. They are also due to the non teaching staff, for reasons as varied as the paying of a bill to reclaiming a misplaced calculator from the office.
To name but a tiny minority would be crime to the others, but still, here goes: Jose Sir, H.O.D, teacher, mentor and friend without equal, the Principal, Dr. U. Lazar John, the one man who could quieten the entire department by his mere presence and yet gained the love and respect of all of us for a lot of things, Fr. Jose Konikkara, Finance Manager and Hostel Warden: all it took for us to start studying at the hostel was the sound of an Enfield Bullet, Haridas Sir and the office staff and the peons, and everyone across all departments from EEE to ME who taught us: Thank You.
To the seniors who moulded us and the juniors to whom we hope we were seniors worthy of emulation: the days were wonderful, it was great to have known you guys.
We would be lying if we said college was all fun and games, and we could be really pissed off about what happened some times at college, but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world.
None of us ever made sense individually (even now), and it is as a class that we would like to be remembered, for it is as a class that we did so many things, good and bad. We were sixty six individuals who consider it lucky to have been one, and it would be quite impossible for just one of us to define the rest. So, hoping to catch up with all of you later on in life, and wishing you all the very best,
Thanks for the memories!

THE TALE OF THREE CITIES:THE ROYAL CITY:MYSORE
Early morning we started our journey with the zoo.I asked myself "have i come this far to see monkeys".Well,i was wrong this was much better. The long wait at the gate of the zoo gave us some ample time to buy us some fancy sunglasses ,the size ranging from the entire face to just the eyes. The names given to animals were quite interesting .i recall a tiger named chandrashekar ,he was handsome,i must say.The lazy bear, the desperate swan, the clumsy monkeys and the motherly blue bird were the eyecatchers.
Our next stop was the Mysore palace.I had a feeling tha i have seen the best when i saw Taj Mahal back in Agra, but after having my first looks at the mysore palace the true meaning of "royalty" was crystal clear in my mind. Here at the palace one thing which was too true is that everything which glitters is gold. There were photos and paintings of the King Chamarajendra wadyar(if i' have not spelled it wrong) exhibited .The skill and expertise was so obvious when i saw RajaRavi varma's paintings. The king looked very charming. The artefacts & gifts studded the palce like anything. There was painting showing the darbar ,every coutesan had a different face showing unique expressions.i was just dumbstruck to see the livliness of the painting. The 36 pillar darbar was a feat to the eyes. There were two black panther statues at the entrance, carved in single marble stone, which had some great ferocity in itself.
The day ended with a visit to the Bridabhan Gardens. The music fountain filled our hearts with some great colors. It was a cool night with a soft breeze which added to the beautiful scenery at the gardens.

The TALEOF 3 CITIES 1:Bangalore
Bangalore known as the heart of the Indian IT industry or the pool of human resource , is famous for its lavish bungalows ,expensive lifestyle ,the heavy traffic and the trendy fashion savvy destination of the corporate India.I paid a short visit to this buzzing busy city on my college tour.We reached Bangalore station early in the morning when the roads were still empty, dimly lit by the streetlights. On the way to our motel there were several buses with name of MNC's written on it (the known ones being WIPRO,TCS etc) and i guessed their utility, the obvious one.
My trip through the city by remembering god ,visiting the Makhan Chor at the ISKCON.The krishna temple is situated in the city heart ,with sky touching buildings towering in its background. The temple had three idols of Lord Krishna so beautifully decorated that you don't want to take your eyes off them.i was astonished to see small shops selling krishna artifacts in the central hall of the temple. The temple has just 3 idols of Krishna but 300 or more of Shops selling Various items in his name .I guess there will be MBA graduates in the board.
My next stop was the Cubban Park .A small park with lots of beautiful flowers situsted near the Karnataka high court .You could see the lawyers debating or maybe discussing about some case(i guess) in the balcony of the court from the Cubban park fence. The court is a large red building with some fine architecture.
Lal bagh reminds me of Lodhi garden of New Delhi, and i was not surprised to find it as a twin version of the latter one. The only difference was that Lodhi Gardens are much greener and studded with ruins .But both of them share a lot in common, lush green grass, garden full of flowers ,green benches and the lovers who are looking for the most remote places in the garden to spent some time together. They are in the gardens to enjoy the flowers ,the greenery, the privacy, the cornetto and of course each other. Our class enjoyed taking photographs with the red, pink and the yellow flowers blooming in the background.Well the local vendors ,juicewalla were happy to a bunch young thirsty lads coming their way.
The Forum ,was very different from the malls i have seen till now. It is more extravagant i every way.It is MAX.The mall was really big ,with bigger brands with the likes of Nike,Fila,Apple,Dolce &GABBANA,Westside ,McDONALDS etc.the one brand which really caught my eye was that of the diamond king ,SWAROVSKI.I guess the shop was "self lit" with the diamonds.I just stood gasping at the front door with my mouth wide open.Another attraction at the forum were the girls .Not that i haven't seen girls, pretty ones,in trendy dresses but there was something different here. The way Bangalore girls coming to The Forum carried themselves was quite unique ,it said everything about their lifestyle and their frame of mind. These young corporate girls meant business, they had money ready to spend and they were really really busy. There is so much hype about the recession around the world but at Forum i don't think anybody knows what it is.Everybody is so busy emptying their pockets that i rushed out of it fearing i might not be tempted to do so.
Once outside the luxury VOLVO buses with the stepped platforms caught my eye.The difference between rhe BMTC ordinary buses and these luxury buses was so stark.
The one unique fashion signature of Bangalore are the backpacks.Almost 80% of the people traveling in Bangalore must be having a backpack(sometimes that of an mnc).Hoping that someday i will join them to ......this is PRD signing off.

Greenpeace :"Count your energy "campaign
Choose compact fluorescent light bulbs.
Replace old-fashioned incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), which use 75 percent less energy and last ten time longer. A typical seventy-five watt incandescent bulb can be replaced by a twenty watt CFL.
Take some simple precautions when using CFLs. Don't use them in closed fixtures. Do not use with dimmers—this creates a fire hazard. (There are some new CFLs available that can be used on dimmers, but they are hard to find. This must be stated on the package.) Check the packages for safety warnings and compatibility with different fixtures. At the end of their operating lives, CFLs should be disposed of properly as they contain mercury. To find out how to safely dispose of CFLs, contact your municipality.

Exam Blues...
The phenomenon is defined as an uneasy feeling along with unexpected off night sleeps..late night studies, anxiousness and hypertension in most cases. The symptoms start from the date of publishing of time table to the end of last exam.(study time )
note:this is the only time we open our books for some study
But inspite of all these things this is the time when we realise how much we have bunked our classes to got to movies, how much time we have spent practically oversleeping !,how much we have enjoyed the weekends along with our friends whiling around .
Slap @%@&# slap &$#
These slaps from the parents brings us to the senses but the young mind ends up scowling and shouting at your mother( you can't shout to u r father ,he might give me some unexpected gifts ..lol)
Then the truth gives the final blow on ur face when all u r friends sys "i hvae studied this , that and all that). And for a moment the future seems to be doomed in hell.(they all have ditched you!)
From out of nowhere u get some guts ,open the books (which still smells new even though u might have bought it months ago) and sit to study. Then next thing you remember is waking up next morning.(maybe the smell of new book might be usefull as a healthy substitute for sleeping pills).
In the coming days you do whatever humanly possible to get off with a pass.
To some, things done in an amplitude unique to their attitude ends up in A and for others it gives another oppurtunity to learn things....maybe a better opputunity to show that "hum kisi se kum nahin".
